How to Store Your Cafe Cakes for Maximum Freshness

How to Store Your Cafe Cakes for Maximum Freshness

Want to make your cakes last while maintaining their freshly baked appeal? We’ve got you covered with our ultimate guide to storing cafe cakes. Discover all the tips you need to preserve the shelf-life of cakes and prevent them from spoiling, including tips on storing in the fridge and freezer and how to display them on your counter.

How long does cake last?

This is a tricky question to answer. It often depends on the ingredients, whether preservatives have been added, and how they’re stored. If you’ve ordered from a wholesale supplier, the shelf life details how long your cakes should last. Our tips below are designed to help you maintain the freshness and longevity of wholesale cakes and brownies in your cafe.

Do bakery cakes need to be refrigerated?

Selling cake crafted with chocolate? Got a hot day or a cafe that runs hot from your busy kitchen staff and customers coming and going? The last thing you want is for the chocolate to melt. A small display fridge could be your saving grace to preserve your chocolate cakes and keep your customers buying, rather than avoiding.

Is it worth freezing cakes?

Freezer-friendly cakes can support your bustling cafe operations due to their extended shelf life. They can last up to a year in the freezer, which makes them a fantastic option for keeping your cakes fresher for longer. When you’re ready to defrost, simply remove them overnight to bring them up to room temperature.

Cakehead tip: We recommend freezing our lovely bakes on the day of arrival. With all our cakes being pre-sliced, you can display what you need and easily store the rest in the freezer until the rest are needed. It’s a great hack to avoid waste and save time on keeping your counter well-stocked every day.

At Cakehead, we also freeze the cakes when delivering them to your cafe—that way we can ensure maximum freshness and lock in the mouth-watering flavours that keep customers coming back for more.

Tips for storing your cake on the counter

Aside from enticing people to buy your scrumptious cakes with gorgeous displays, there are plenty of care considerations to keep them fresh.

Top tips:

  • Store your cakes away from direct sunlight or heat sources.
  • Make sure they’re covered from the open elements. (Flies can be pesky at the best of times, but the last thing you want is for them to land on your beautiful cakes!)
  • Covering round cakes with a glass cake dome also helps prevent the air from drying out the cake.
  • When stacking cake slices, use greaseproof paper to prevent them from sticking.

We hope these tips maximise the freshness of your bakes. If you haven’t already, sign up for our wholesale cake ordering service and browse our lovely cakes and brownies.
